How did you get started with RISE?

I have been doing CrossFit for 2 years and before that I was a runner. I really enjoy Crossfit but sometimes I miss the element of running where I am maintaining an elevated heart rate over an extended amount of time. I found this with RISE and really like the mix of RISE and Crossfit together.

What is your exercise background?

For a handful of years I was a “runner”, mostly 5k distance in my neighborhood until I started doing CrossFit in April of 2013. Growing up, I played guitar, not sports, and I have never felt like a natural athlete but I have come to enjoy being active thanks to CFP & RISE.

What motivates you to exercise on a regular basis?

At the risk of sounding like a total narcissist, my biggest motivation is to not be overweight. Everyone talks about wanting to look good naked but that’s a pretty high standard. I mean c’mon, my wife is the only one seeing me naked, and while I hope she likes what she sees, everyone else sees me with my clothes ON!! Can we start with looking good with clothes on?!

What is your favorite RISE Interval?

Anabolic.

What is your favorite RISE exercise or apparatus?

It’s a tie between the battle ropes and the crossover symmetry bands.

What do you do for fun?

I make and enjoy coffee and food with my wife and 4 kids for fun.

Member Spotlight- Kelley and Jonathan Hurtt

For this week’s spotlight we have a Husband and Wife duo of Kelley and Jonathan Hurtt.  Jonathan has been a member of CrossFit Pineville for a good while, and Kelley joined us as we opened up our RISE program.  Kelley is always a joy to have around, and always has a smile on her face.  You can say the same for Jon…(After he has woken up!)  We love having these two around and they are a great part of our community!

How were you introduced to RISE?

I was introduced to RISE by my hubby, Jonathan. Jonathan joined Crossfit Pineville late last year and once RISE started he encouraged me to check it out, so we went to our first class together in March and have been hooked ever since!

What is your exercise background?

Although I did not play sports growing up (does 8th grade softball count?!) I have been an active person all my life and have always belonged to a gym of some kind. I discovered yoga a few years ago and continue my practice each week. Although I still felt something was missing, and that’s where RISE came in – it provided me with a type of strength training I have never experienced before and I feel myself getting stronger every day. So it’s quite amazing to see how RISE has improved my yoga practice and vice versa!

What motivates you to exercise on a daily basis?

Knowing I always feel better after working out, than not working out at all – no matter how hard it may be to get out of bed in the morning! Also, seeing and feeling real results keeps me coming back everyday.

What is your favorite RISE interval?

I enjoy the Anaerobic intervals the most, knowing I can push myself for a short intense time period.

What is your favorite RISE exercise or apparatus?

I love anything with the Surge Swimmers, I enjoy the challenge of balancing the weight of the water and I always feel it in my core the next day!

What do you do for fun?

I love to travel, cook, taking our dog Rocky for long walks and watching anything on Bravo 🙂

How were you introduced to RISE?

Being a member of Crossfit Pineville I saw the creation of RISE at the gym, and I encouraged my wife to check it out. She wanted me to attend her first class with her and now it’s our Saturday morning ritual together.

What is your exercise background?

I started wrestling at the age of 5 and continued up until college. I have always been involved in competitive sports and belonging to a gym of some sorts.

What motivates you to exercise on a daily basis?

My love of craft beer and laziness became troublesome when trying to button my pants. I knew I had to make a change but found myself bored with solo gym workouts. The group set-up and camaraderie that is RISE and Crossfit is what motivates me to workout daily.

What is your favorite RISE interval?

I enjoy the Aerobic intervals the most, it helps me work on my endurance and pace.

What is your favorite RISE exercise or apparatus?

Anything with the use of kettle-bells and punching the heavy bags.

What do you do for fun?

Tinkering with technology and spending quality time with my wife and dog.ECP_Kelley&Jon-118

It becomes a lifestyle.” I couldn’t agree more. I look forward to my RISE classes. I hate missing them. The people are great, they really motivate you. So I look forward to it daily. My RISE classes have become part of my routine.
